ISO 14001 has been updated. Here's what you need to know, and what you need to do.

If you already hold a qualification in ISO 14001:2015, you don't need to start over. You need a focused, efficient course that tells you exactly what has changed in the 2026 edition, why those changes were made, and what they mean for how you audit, advise, and implement.

This transition course is built for experienced ISO 14001 practitioners. It covers every clause, clause by clause, with a clear breakdown of what's new, what's been strengthened, what's been clarified, and what stays the same; so you can update your practice with confidence and continue working without interruption.

On successful completion, you'll receive an Exemplar Global Certificate of Attainment, recognised as meeting the requirements for transition of auditor certification with Exemplar Global.

*Prerequisites apply. This course is designed for those who already hold a qualification in ISO 14001:2015.

Who is the ISO 14001:2026 Transition Course For?

Built for experienced ISO 14001 practitioners

This is not an introductory course. It is designed for people who already understand ISO 14001:2015 and need to transition their knowledge and practice to the 2026 edition — efficiently and without re-covering the fundamentals.

This course is right for you if you are:

  • An auditor with ISO 14001:2015 scope
You need to understand how the 2026 revision changes the evidence you look for, the questions you ask, and the way you assess conformance — clause by clause.
  • An EMS consultant or advisor
Your clients are asking what ISO 14001:2026 means for their system. This course gives you the clause-level detail to advise with confidence.
  • An EHS or environmental manager holding an ISO 14001:2015 qualification
You're responsible for your organisation's EMS and need to understand which requirements have changed, been strengthened, or expanded — and what actions, if any, that triggers.
  • A quality or integrated systems professional
You manage ISO 14001 as part of a broader management system scope and need a clear picture of how the 2026 revision interacts with your existing processes.

This course assumes prior knowledge of ISO 14001:2015. Candidates without an existing ISO 14001 qualification should consider the full ISO 14001:2026 Environmental Management Systems Specialist course.

What is included in the ISO 14001:2026 Transition Course?

ISO 14001:2026 is an evolutionary update, not a rewrite. The core EMS model and clause framework remain consistent with the 2015 edition. What has changed is the level of clarity, emphasis, and explicit expectation in key areas — and this course walks you through every one of them.

The 2026 edition places stronger emphasis on:

  • Climate change mitigation and adaptation
  • Biodiversity and ecosystem protection
  • Environmental conditions as external context
  • Change management within the EMS
  • Integration of the EMS into business processes
  • Reliability and availability of environmental information
  • Control of externally provided processes, products, and services

The course introduces five change classifications used throughout:

  • Addition — Genuinely new clauses or requirements not present in the 2015 edition
  • Expanded — Additional detail or structure added to existing requirements
  • Strengthened — Existing requirements expressed more explicitly or emphatically
  • Clarified — Wording refined to reduce ambiguity without changing intent
  • Unchanged — No substantive change; editorial only

Each clause is assessed against these classifications so you always know the nature and significance of the change you're looking at.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the ISO 14001:2026 Transition Course?

The ISO 14001:2026 Transition Course is a focused, clause-by-clause online course designed for experienced ISO 14001:2015 practitioners. It covers what has changed in the 2026 edition of the standard, why those changes were made, and what they mean for how organisations implement their EMS and how auditors assess conformance.

Who needs to complete a transition course for ISO 14001:2026?

Any auditor, consultant, or EMS professional who holds a qualification based on ISO 14001:2015 and wishes to maintain currency with the updated standard should complete a transition course. On completion, you receive an Exemplar Global Certificate of Attainment recognised as meeting the requirements for transition of auditor certification with Exemplar Global.

What are the prerequisites for this course?

This course is designed for those who already hold a qualification in ISO 14001:2015. Candidates without existing ISO 14001 knowledge should complete the full full ISO 14001:2026 Environmental Management Systems Specialist course instead.

What has actually changed in ISO 14001:2026?

ISO 14001:2026 is an evolutionary update, not a rewrite. The core EMS model and PDCA framework remain unchanged. Key changes include: expanded environmental conditions; strengthened linkage between interested party needs and compliance obligations; a new standalone clause for planning of changes; strengthened internal audit requirements; and terminology alignment across the standard. The course provides a complete clause-by-clause breakdown.

Is this course internationally recognised?

Yes. Successful completion earns you an Exemplar Global Certificate of Attainment, recognised globally as meeting the requirements for transition of Exemplar Global auditor certification.

How long does the transition course take?

The course is approximately eight (8) hours in duration and is completed fully online at your own pace.

Do I need a copy of ISO 14001:2026 to complete this course?

No. All relevant clause extracts are included within your course materials. A separate copy of the standard is not required.

What is the difference between ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 14001:2026?

ISO 14001:2026 maintains the same PDCA model and clause framework as the 2015 edition. The 2026 revision strengthens and clarifies requirements across several clauses, with particular emphasis on environmental conditions (climate change, biodiversity, ecosystem health), change management, integration of the EMS into business processes, and the reliability of environmental information. One new clause has been introduced.
