Course Overview

ISO/IEC 42001:2023 is the first international standard for Artificial Intelligence Management Systems (AIMS). It helps organisations integrate AI governance into existing processes and leadership practices while balancing innovation with risk-based controls and compliance.

In this Specialist course you move beyond awareness to practical application: aligning policy, roles and objectives; defining and operating AI risk assessment and treatment; conducting AI system impact assessments; and applying reference controls from Annex A with implementation guidance from Annex B.

You’ll also learn how to monitor performance, prepare for internal audits and management reviews, and drive continual improvement and corrective action so your AIMS delivers results and remains effective over time.

What an AI management system is and why organisations need one: scope, key terms, and how ISO/IEC 42001 brings management system discipline to the development and use of AI.
Module 2

Context of the Organization (Clause 4)
Internal and external issues affecting AI, the needs and expectations of interested parties, and defining the scope of the AI management system, including the organisation's role in the AI lifecycle.
Module 3

Leadership (Clause 5)
Top management leadership and commitment, the AI policy, and organisational roles, responsibilities and authorities for responsible AI.
Module 4

Planning (Clause 6)
Actions to address AI risks and opportunities, AI impact considerations, and AI objectives and planning to achieve them.
Module 5

Support (Clause 7)
Resources, competence, awareness, communication, and documented information requirements for an effective AIMS.
Module 6

Operation (Clause 8)
Operational planning and control for AI systems, and AI risk assessment and treatment in practice.
Module 7

Performance Evaluation (Clause 9)
Monitoring, measurement, analysis and evaluation of AIMS performance, internal audit, and management review.
